The unemployed, the hungry, and the homeless are our brothers and sisters in God’s family. We are all linked to each other; their needs should also be our concern. This is also why SPECS Foundation Inc. has made it one of its goals to feed children from impoverished families. The Foundation believes that to respond to the needs of those who need help is a serious responsibility.
The Community and Outreach Program, headed by Program Specialist Beth Espiritu, started with the basics of taking height and weight measurements of the kids from different barangays in Paranaque City, Pasay City, and Cavite. The measurements determine the current state of health of a child as related to nutrition. The initial weighing and taking height measurements will also be used as a basis for comparison at the end of the supplemental feeding program after a certain period.
Beyond The Immediate Needs
Beyond providing for the children’s nutritional needs, it’s also important to step back and think about how to sustain this initiative. We all have even the most basic duty to dream of a just society where people help people. Here’s the question: What can we do? Answer: A lot. We can do a lot depending on what we’re ready to give, from volunteering to sharing online and word-of-mouth about this feeding program, to donating in-kind or cash, or even just by a shoutout or cheer.
