History: 

A Brief History of SPECS

SPECS Foundation traces its roots back to August 1970, when the Holy Trinity Center and Good Shepherd Family Center began serving the urban poor with support from World Vision International. On October 16, 1987, SPECS Foundation was formally established under the leadership of Mr. Jose Hilado and Ptra. Miriam Macaspac.

Key milestones in SPECS’ journey include:

  • Launching a feeding program and temporary shelter for street children.
  • Receiving support from the Presidential Management Staff Assistance under the Aquino administration.
  • Overcoming financial challenges in 1991 with the aid of German partners who formed the Christliche Philippinen Initiative e.V.
  • Established the Speed the Light Center for Girls in 1996 and the Kaagapay Temporary Shelter for Boys in 1997, providing safe havens for needy children.
